Quantum Motion Raises $160M for Silicon Transistor-Based Quantum Computing

Quantum Motion, a London-headquartered quantum computing startup with offices and labs in Spain, Australia, and the U.S., has raised $160 million in a Series C funding round co-led by DCVC and Kembara, with participation from British Business Bank and Firgun. The company said the funding will support the commercialization of its silicon transistor-based quantum computing technology, which it claims can reduce cost and space requirements by 100-fold and energy consumption by 1,000-fold compared with alternative approaches. Quantum Motion aims to deploy systems within standard data-center racks and highlighted recent developments, including the deployment of a full-stack silicon CMOS quantum computer at the U.K. National Quantum Computing Centre and advancement to Stage B of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative. CEO James Palles-Dimmock said, “Quantum computing will only achieve its full potential if it can be built on a platform that scales.” Founded in 2017, Quantum Motion Technologies had previously raised more than £42 million (about $55 million) in equity funding. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, professor of EECS at University of California, Berkeley, and co-founder of Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys, is chairman.
